Welcome to my Kintsugi Art page! What you'll find in my webshop are my handmade Kintsugi pieces, made with all my love in 's-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands. You will find all Kintsugi pieces that are currently available in my Etsy shop. 

Kintsugi is a Japanese technique of ceramic joinery with gold. It has a long history since the 15th century and is based on the philosophy and esthetics of wabi sabi - the beauty of imperfection. Kintsugi are pieces that once were broken. With Kintsugi, the cracks (scars) are being joined with gold which creates an absolutely unique look and feel with organic forms and an enhanced 'soul' of the piece. What has once been broken tends to shine even brighter afterwards, with its authentic beauty and powerful vulnerability. What a parallel to our own healing as human beings, or to the healing of the Earth.

How to shop

You can choose an existing Kintsugi piece in my Etsy shop. See with which piece you feel a heart-connection. That one is speaking to you though your senses and wants to be part of your life! Of course, you can choose to give Kintsugi as a gift to someone you care about as well. The pieces are being wrapped safely and can be shipped worldwide to make our world brighter and more meaningful at the same time!

  • Alternatively, I can create a personalized ‘Your Story in Kintsugi’ piece for you. It works like this:
  • You can purchase the ‘Your story in Kintsugi’ item in my Etsy webshop here.
  • I will then reach out to you and invite you to share your story with me. This might be a story about a painful experience, a transformational periode in your life, a transition time full of uncertainty and doubt that is almost ‘cracking you open’, a trauma, or simply any ‘crack’ that you’ve experienced as a living being on planet Earth that has left traces or scars in you and needs some healing. You can send your story to me as a text or, for example, record it with a voice recorder if you prefer. You can share as much or as little as you like, I trust that what you’ll share will be exactly enough to create from. I will create a piece of Kintsugi for you, based on what you have shared with me, where the entire Kintsugi process will be inspired by your unique story. The result will be an exciting surprise for you!

My experience is that Kintsugi pieces often really connect with the person's heart, creating a strengthened field for healing and wholeness while embracing our scars and letting them shine bright. -Kat

Art with a lived Story on Earth

The Ceramics

The ceramics I use come from different sources. Each one of them already has a ‘lived’ story in this world, I do not get my ceramics from typical stores or massa production. Each one of my pieces has already lived a life on planet Earth.

They are usually handmade by Dutch, French, Italian or Japanese artists and one-of-a-kind pieces of art, even more once they’ve been Kintsugi-ed. The different Kintsugi methods I’m using are a combination of the traditional Kintsugi techniques as we’ve known them since the 15th century, and a more modern approach.
